Jill Corkey graduated from the University of Ulster, Belfast with a BA in Fine art. Jill's work derives from her experiences and feelings in the South west of Scotland and Irish landscape. The mystery of the past, bog land and how it retains objects of great fragility for thousands of years has become significant in Jill's work. Subtle, muted colours and rugged textures of natural materials, primarily peat and clay, conjoin directly landscape and image. The written word is also prevalant in Jill Corkey's work both in literal and visual sense. Her Poetry, conceived initially as 'sketches' plays a significant part, extracts of which are scratched into the works and emerge from decayed and eroded surfaces. Jill has previously exhibited in The Tom Caldwell Gallery and the Engine room both in Belfast, and in the design Gallery and Mill on the Fleet in Scotland. |
